Do
weight loss pills leave you tired and wired? elpt
Weight loss pills
that are worth their salt are few and far between.
I’m skeptical of most weight loss
pills but these two are worth the
money. They are safe, don't get
you "wired" and have been proven
in clinical trials.
The council for Responsible
Nutrition (CRN) affirms that some
diet pills can be very effective
when used correctly, but they
remind us that there are no magic
bullets.
Don't expect to just pop a few
weight loss pills, sit back and watch the fat
melt away. Real life just doesn't
work that way... in spite of what
the glitzy adds promise.
Weight loss pills however, often
are helpful as a "kickoff" or
"booster" to "rev up" your
metabolism and give you a fast
start toward your weight loss
goals.
The best approach for success over
the long haul is always to improve
your eating and exercise habits.
Even the best weight loss pills work best when combined
with
exercise and a sensible low
carb eating program
Let's take a look at the different
types of weight loss pills that
are currently on the market.
Use these
fat burners with caution.
According to Will Brink,
supplement-industry consultant and
author of Diet Supplements
Revealed, "The term 'fat burner'
specifies products that generate a
heat producing thermogenic
response, which in turn raises the
body's metabolism and may
stimulate fatty-acid release for
use as fuel.
The popular stimulants used in fat
burners are ephedrine and
caffeine, lovingly known as the
(EC combo). The usual ratio of
caffeine to ephedrine in most fat
burners is 10 to 1.
Potential Side Effects
The CRN says, "There is certainly
a place for thermogenic agents
(fat burners), but there are some
risks for some people. Consumers
need to read the cautions on the
labels and consult with their
physicians to make sure they are
not in the "at risk category."
Not everyone who uses a fat burner
can tolerate the side
effects. Some feel nervous and
edgy, and they experience a
'wired, tired' sensation due to
lack of quality sleep.
These at-risk groups are pregnant
women, and those who may be taking
medications for heart disorders,
hypertension, glaucoma, anxiety
disorders, diabetes, thyroid
disorders, prostate cancer and
Parkinson's disease.
A Safer Approach - Stimulant Free
Fat Burners
If you are taking blood pressure
or certain heart medications...or
just don't like the "buzz" of the
ephedrine and caffeine
combination, a stimulant free
weight loss supplement is a
powerful and safe alternative.
The New "Wonder Pill" For Weight
Loss?
They're calling it "the
liposuction pill" because of the
remarkable way this weight loss
pill sucks fat out of
the body's fat cells. A study
published in the Journal of
Nutrition found that CLA, or
conjugated linoleic acid, reduces
fat and preserves muscle tissue.
Dr. David G. Williams, M.D., tells
us how these remarkable weight
loss pills work."Think
of CLA as a railroad switchman.
Normally, when you eat a
fatty food, that fat directly
enters your body's fat cells for
storage. But CLA emulsifies the
fat into soluble molecules, then
switches the fat's direction from
your body's fat cells into your
muscle tissue. There it is
metabolized to produce energy.
Without CLA, you body stores the
fat you eat--and even creates new
fat cells to accommodate the extra
load."
CLA also has a number of other
beneficial "side effects." It
increases lean muscle, helps
control blood sugar levels in
diabetics, improves HDL
cholesterol and helps support the
immune system!
Negative side effects are
extremely rare... and include mild
gastro-intestinal conditions.
Look for a quality CLA
supplement with the name "Tonalin"
on the label. Tonalin is the
patented form of CLA that was used
in the clinical studies.
Are Carb
Blockers weight loss pills?
In one day recently I received two
"spam" e-mails
promoting carb blockers, both
shouting that their miracle
products would melt off the
pounds like a snowman on a warm
spring day.
In spite of the over promising
of many promoters, Carb blockers are a weight loss tool that has merit if used
along with a sensible low carb eating program and exercise.
Carb blockers can come in handy
as an occasional aid to “cheating”
when the occasion arises to
partake in more carbs than usual.
My favorite Mexican lunch of
enchiladas, rice and beans comes
to mind...
The
concept of a carbohydrate blocker isn't new.
For
decades, products have promised that we can eat starchy foods without gaining
weight. Some crude extracts from beans proved so ineffective that the FDA
suspended their sale in the early 1980's.
The new products however use a
refined, more potent extract of the white kidney bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) has been shown in clinical trials to be very effective..
Studies show that the extract can neutralize as much as 66% of the starch
consumed in a meal.
How do
carb blockers work?
Although carb blockers aren't really a weight loss pill they do inhibit the activity of alpha amylase, the
digestive enzyme responsible for
starch digestion. By slowing down
the action of this enzyme,
conversion of complex
carbohydrates (starch) into
smaller carbohydrate units (sugar)
is greatly reduced. These
undigested carbohydrates are then
excreted from the body instead of
being stored as fat.
Are chitosan fat blockers safe?
Although there are
some studies that indicate that Chitosan, a fat blocker derived from shell
fish is effective in improving weight loss success there are some things you
should be aware of. Certain vitamins (E,A,D,F,K) are fat-soluble, and too much
use Chitosan use could lead to deficiencies in them. Fat too, of course,
is required for optimum bodily health, especially the Omega 3-6-9 fatty acids.
These good fats would be blocked also.
There is an upside to
Chitosan however. It
seems to have a positive effect on raising "good" (HDL) cholesterol levels,
while lowering the undesirable LDL levels. As always the best approach is
moderation. Don't go overboard but use them as a tool along with
a good diet and
the best exercise for weight loss.
A safe stimulant free alternative.
Vital Life Nutritionals makes an
excellent carb blocker/fat blocker combination called, CALORIE QUENCHER.
My wife and I use it for special occasions such as Mexican food and high carb,
high fat desserts. It can blunt the effect of
2,250 starch calories per 1,000 mg capsule. This is equal to a loaf of bread
or a pound of pasta!
But the benefits don't stop
here. CALORIE QUENCHER also contains 300 mg of LipoSan Ultra®
which binds up to three times more fat than regular chitosan. It also contains
chromium picolinate which supports healthy blood sugar levels.

"My cholesterol was 397 and my doctor wanted to put me on Lipitor but I was afraid of the side effects. Gene gave me the research information on policosanol for my doctor to review and although he was somewhat skeptical he gave me the go ahead to give it a try.
When I got my first follow up test after 8 weeks total cholesterol had dropped to 240. But the best news is that my HDL cholesterol was up which improved my ratio from 7 to 4.3 which is very good.
I am elated and my doctor was pleased and I think a little bit surprised. He said "Keep on doing what you're doing."
