Millen's Musings

The last two weeks since our last newsletter have gone quickly. Partly because we were helping our daughter move. It was good to get some "physical labor".

My exercise lately has been limited to walking Rocko. He nags me to get up and going.

More people are finding our website and it's kept me pretty busy adding information and making the site more usable. The Policosanol Research Report has been very popular, especially since it is now available in PDF format that allows you to print out a copy for your doctor or other interested party. This report has 13 pages of technical data gleaned from 50 different research studies over the past several years.

Our new cholesterol lowering product, CHOLEST-CHECK is selling better than our single policosanol products. There is nothing like in on the market and it is a great value at only $.83 per dose.

The article on vitamins was previously published in our local newspaper  (Merced Sun-Star, Merced, Ca) a few months ago and I received a great deal of positive feed back. Most people don't have a good understanding of vitamins and the giant manufacturers like it that way. Hope you enjoy the article.

Don't waste your money
on cheap vitamins.

  • Mom always said, Be sure to take your vitamins. In spite of the vitamins will just give you expensive urine critics, Mom was right again.

The latest scientific research is proving that good health is dependent on getting the right combination of high quality vitamins.

David Heber, M.D., Ph.D., of the Center for Human Nutrition at the University of California, Los Angeles says,

We now have a substantial body of data showing that if everyone took a few supplements every day, they could significantly lower their risk of a multitude of serious diseases."

Some vitamin detractors still insist that we will get all the vitamins and minerals we need by eating a balanced diet. In theory this may be true. But the odds are only slightly better than winning the lottery without buying a ticket.

In Department of Agriculture studies of 50,000 persons performed in the 1980's, not one person was getting the RDA of the 10 essential vitamins. And in many cases the RDA provides only a small fraction of what is necessary for optimum health.

Are natural vitamins as effective as synthetic ingredients? The answer is an unequivocal yes and no. Natural vitamins are derived from food sources and synthetic vitamins are created in the laboratory. Under controlled conditions synthetic vitamins work just like the natural ingredients.

But we dont live in a perfect world.

For example, studies have shown that synthetic vitamin E will actually block natural vitamin E activity at the cellular level.

Synthetic beta-carotene is adversely affected by synthetic food dyes, which are common in one-a day vitamin preparations. Yellow dye also decreases vitamin B-6 activity.

Synthetic vitamins replicate only one of perhaps dozens of beneficial nutrients. Its somewhat like copying one ingredient that is contained in an apple. You miss all of the related nutrients that work synergistically.

Choosing the right combination of vitamins and minerals is a daunting task. The vitamin industry is unregulated and there are legions of unscrupulous vendors who would like to get our hard earned money. E caveat emptorlet the buyer beware.

One-a-day vitamins are very popular because of their cheap price, brand name recognition and the ease of taking only one pill per day.

We all love a bargain but cheap
    vitamins are no bargain.

They are made from synthetic ingredients and have low levels of antioxidants, which are so important to neutralize free radicals and fight off heart disease and cancer.

Many products, including some of the highly advertised name brands (Centrum comes to mind) are processed at high temperatures which impairs the their viability.

Some contain petroleum derived chemical solvents, such as ethyl cellulose and are coated with methylene chloride, a carcinogenic material.

    Some vitamins can be
    hazardous to your health.

According to Dr. Zoltan P. Rona, M.D.,
Although most healthy people will have no obvious side effects from ingesting small amounts of toxins found in cheap vitamins, the long term consequences of continuous, daily intakes are potentially dangerous. Over 7% of the population displays sensitivity to these chemicals.

Dr. Rona says that allergic reactions include fatigue, memory loss, depression and insomnia. Many companies are more interested in shelf life than human life.

Here are some tips when shopping for a quality vitamin formula. Read your ingredient label carefully. This will probably require the help of a magnifying glass. Stick with the natural supplements and avoid the chemicals.

A good multi-vitamin formula will contain at least 250-500 mg. of vitamin C, 150-400 IU vitamin E, and 5,000 mg. Beta Carotene with mixed carotenoids.

The best value in a high quality natural vitamin that I've been able to find is Vital Life Nutritionals Life Multi Complete.  It contains a powerful with a powerful blend of whole food nutrients and high levels of antioxidants.

With its revitalizing, energy-giving ingredients, this is no ordinary multi-vitamin. You will experience a level of energy and well-being that  comes only with a complete nutritional formula.

All these have been ingeniously combined in this formula to create powerful, synergistic effects that will  give you the get up and go that you have been waiting for!

    Wisdom from Grandpa.......

Whether a man winds up with a nest egg, or a goose egg, depends a lot on the kind of chick he marries.

Trouble in marriage often starts when a man gets so busy earnin' his salt, that he forgets his sugar.

Too many couples marry for better, or for worse,
    but not for good.

When a man marries a woman, they become one; but the trouble starts when they try to decide which one.

If a man has enough horse sense to treat his wife like a thoroughbred, she will never turn into an old nag.

On anniversaries, the wise husband always forgets the past - but never the present.

A foolish husband says to his wife, "Honey, you stick to the washin', ironin', cookin', and scrubbin'.  No wife of mine is gonna work."

The bonds of matrimony are a good investment,
only when the interest is kept up.

Many girls like to marry a military man - he can cook, sew, and make beds, and is in good health, and he's already used to taking orders.

Eventually you will reach a point when you stop lying about your age, and start bragging about it.

The older we get, the fewer things seem worth waiting in line for.

Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me, I want people to know "why" I look this way. I've traveled a long way and some of the roads weren't paved.

How old would you be if you didn't know how old you are?

When you are dissatisfied and would like to go back to your youth.... Remember about Algebra.

You know you are getting old, when everything either dries up, or leaks.

I don't know how I got over the hill without getting to the top.

One of the many things no one tells you about aging is that it is such a nice change from being young.

Ah, being young is beautiful, but being old is comfortable.

Old age is when former classmates are so gray and wrinkled and bald, they don't recognize you.

If you don't learn to laugh at trouble, you won't have anything to laugh at when you are old.

Have a GREAT day.......and keep Laughing.
