Heart disease can kill you. I know
because it came close to killing
me.
Lest you perceive that this news
is a little bit negative let me
hasten to assure you that my
intentions are not to scare you...at
least not too much.
As my favorite Belgium detective,
Hurcule Poirot would say, I just
want to get your "little grey
cells" stirring around.
You should know however that each year there are 1.2 million
heart attacks, half of them in
women.
For 30% of these victims
the first sign of a problem is
sudden death.
My name is Gene
Millen. Until I was 59 years
old
(I'll soon be 73) if I got the desire to exercise I would lie down until it went away. My nutrition motto was "life is uncertain, eat
dessert first."
In
1990 Dr. Hugh Tobin, a highly
skilled heart surgeon, sawed open my
chest and stitched in bypasses to
six of my favorite arteries. I
can't say I enjoyed the experience
all that much but it did get my
attention...and brought a new
passion to my life.
I
took early retirement from my day
job as a bank president and for the
last 11 years my wife Bernie and I
have operated an award winning health and wellness center
in Merced, California that specializes in keeping the "over
50 crowd" in optimum health.
My mission is
