Dr. Kenneth CooperDr. Kenneth Cooper was the first to realize that exercise is good medicine.

Kenneth H. Cooper is a doctor of medicine and former Air Force Colonel from Oklahoma, who introduced the concept of aerobics.

In his Air Force career, Cooper had devised a simple test (the Cooper Test, originally the distance run in 12 minutes) which correlated well with VO2 max, the measure of our body's ability to process oxygen. This measurement is used to quickly establish the fitness levels of large numbers of people.

Cooper is the founder of the Cooper Aerobics Center in Dallas and McKinney, Texas. He is also the founder of the non-profit research and education organization, The Cooper Institute, which was opened in 1970. Today, Cooper is Founder and Chairman at the Cooper Aerobics Center in Dallas, which comprises eight health and wellness entities.
The trail blazing doctor, researcher, author and founder of the renowned Cooper Clinic and Research Center in Dallas, Texas, was widely criticized in1968 for recommending that people over 40 should start a regular exercise program to lower risk of heart disease and a heart attack. It was considered "too dangerous" at the time.
In the early 70's he was the first to propose using exercise as a foundation for an active cardiac rehabilitation program. His detractors called the idea "the height of stupidity" that exercise is good medicine for heart health.
Always it seems, Cooper has stayed just a few steps ahead of the pack when it comes to exercise and the heart. Like so many pioneers and innovators is willing to put his reputation on the line for the sake of scientific progress.

Gene Millen, Heart Health CoachI'm Gene Millen, the owner of this website with my wife Bernie. It took 59 years for me to catch on to the fact that exercise is crucial for heart health. Some of us are slow learners.

In 1993, shortly after my near heart attack we opened the Vital Life Center in Merced, Ca to provide wellness programs for the over 50 crowd. At that time the benefits of exercise, especially for older adults, were just beginning to be publicized.

The Surgeon General's Report on Physical Activity and Health confirmed what many of us have known for a long time that heart exercise is good medicine...and probably better than most of us ever imagined.

The scientific data shows that not exercising is hazardous to our heath. In fact a sedentary life style is equal to smoking a pack of cigarettes per day.
A new landmark study shows that one's level of fitness has more to do with longevity than a host of other factors, including smoking, high blood pressure or a history of heart disease.
Previous studies also show that thinner men who were out of shape were nearly three times more likely to die young than fat men who were fit.

Exercise is good medicine. "Motion is the Potion."

The attached chart shows how exercise can reduce our risk of heart disease.

Additional benefits of exercise that are not shown on the chart are stress relief, improvement in mental function, increased energy and better sleep.

Exercise is also a key factor in weight management. Increased cardiovascular fitness helps us burn more fat and strength training can supercharge our metabolism.

Each pound of muscle we add to our body will burn about 1500 calories per month which equates to nearly a half pound of stored fat.
Yes, exercise is good medicine. Are you taking your dose regularly?

"These Numbers Have Blown My Doctor's Mind!"

"Gene: I just wanted to take a minute and share with you the results of my latest blood work.

"My total cholesterol was 114, my LDL was 48, my HDL was 51 (up from 35), and my triglycerides were 111.

"These numbers have blown my doctor's mind. He has tried for years to get my HDL up above 40.

The only thing different that I am doing is taking the Krill Oil, the Red Yeast Rice with Citrus Bergamot, and the exercise program that you outlined for me.

"I don't know which of these did the trick, or if it was a combination, but these are the best numbers I have ever had....Thank You BIG TIME!"
