Acetyl L Carnitine For Brain, Heart and Weight Loss.

Is you energy lagging?
Do you feel tired physically and mentally?
Is your brain in need of a tonic?

You may be low on  Acetyl L Carnitine, also known as  or ALCAR for short. ALCAR is a close cousin of  L-carnitine and they both have identical chemical core structures.

Acetyl-L- carnitine is just as effective in transporting fatty acids into the mitochondria to improve metabolism and promote weight loss.

New studies indicate that it also has properties which benefit the brain and slow cognitive decline. Not to mention it is great for the heart!

Acetyl L Carnitine has been demonstrated in animal studies to protect the brain, especially a region involved in short-term memory, the hippocampus, from damage inflicted by toxic oxidants.

It inhibited damage to cell membrane constituents and DNA and is believed by researchers to show great promise for Alzheimers victims.

ALCAR in conjunction with Alpha Lipoic Acid shows great promise in slowing down age-associated cognitive decline.

AT THE UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, BERKELEY, AN AWARD-WINNING TEAM OF SCIENTISTS has been conducting pre-clinical studies on aging. They discovered that by combining acetyl L-carnitine with alpha lipoic acid they could slow the cell aging process.

In addition to promoting these positive effects on the cellular constituents of the brain, ALC also may help to increase levels of neurotransmitters.

The National Institute of Health (NIH) sponsored a two day seminar studying the science behind this  nutrient. These were the highlights:

  • Those who had suffered from a heart attack, and  supplemented with 2-3 gm/day of ALCAR over 4-8 weeks had a reduction in the amount of damage to the heart muscle.

  • Acetyl L Carnitine also reduced the incidence of angina and cardiac arrhythmias as well as the need for anti-angina and anti-arrhythmic medications.

  • In addition ALCAR  increased exercise capacity among the elderly and patients with angina.

But the studies show even more interesting results.

Experiments with rats show a dramatic decrease (between 50-70%) in the activity level of old rats as compared to the young animal. Old rats, too, get tired with age!

This observation led researchers to investigate whether the old energy-deficient animals could be transformed into more energetic, youthful animals by feeding them a diet enriched with L-carnitine. Supplying L-carnitine to the diet increased the activity of the old rats almost two-fold.

If your energy is lacking and you could use a brain tonic acetyl l carnitine may be just what you are looking for.
